15. Rejections - part III
15.1. Isolations
The next reason for rejection is bad isolation. When you isolate a subject from it's background, make sure you do it well. Finish it with a soft brush and make sure you erase all of the background.
In the beginning I hadn't much experience with isolations and hence I got a few rejection. But I improved my skills and at the moment I do not get any rejection for this anymore.
Beneath a file which was rejected for this. It's hard to see, therefore I drew an arrow to the area which isn't completely white. This was not the only part I'd left numerous of these little spots.

You can check in PS in a very easy way if you've erased all of the background. Select the magic wand with a tolerance of 2px. Then click on the white background anywhere in your image. If you've left some area's they will be outlined with the marching ant. If the ants are all around your frame, than your background is fully white.
15.2. Duplicates
When uploading a whole batch of 20 similar shots for example, it's likely that a few of these images will be rejected for "too similar, we don't need that much of one subject"
When you upload these images over several batches with several days in between. You have a good chance that none will be rejected because they are most likely reviewed by a different inspector
15.3. Not suited for stock
Another reason for rejection is the very subjective "This image is not suited for stock". In other words, they think it's not worth the serverspace or they think they will never make any money from it.
This can be confusing especially when you see similar images already online.
Approximately the same is the reason : "we already have enough of these images in our database". Again they think they won't make any money from your image.
You could argue these rejections, but in the end only they decided which files they accept and which not.
Underneath two images which were rejected for these reason. The pond picture they found not suited for stock and it seemed that they had already enough clouds in their database.

15.4. Possible copyright/trademark infringement
Yet an other reason which can lead to frustrations because you don't see any problems yourself. But it is logic that the microstock sites are very reluctant against any mark, drawing are the like on a picture. They naturally want to avoid lawsuits.
Especially iStockphoto is very reluctant to this. Underneath an example of a rejected image. The reason this file was rejected is because the drawing on the shirt of the girl. So if you shoot people, make sure they wear something without symbols are marking.

LOLZ, I just had a rejection for this reason. You won't believe it, but the image was rejected for the 3 letters on the zipper which can hardly be seen. Both iStockphoto and Dreamstime rejected this. Shutterstock and Fotolia did approve the image. Just see for yourself.
15.5. Irrelevant Keywords
Finally the last in a long row of common rejection.
Again especially iStockphoto is though on irrelevant keywords, but I think others will follow as keywords are 'the next big thing' imho. They even remove your image from the server if they find out that you're using keywords which are not relevant to your picture.
I have one image which is removed in this way. The image can be seen below. I had attached the following keywords. As I remember it well, the ones in bold they didn't find appropriate.(and maybe they were right)
apple, calorie, carbohydrate, closeup, daily, day, diet, dieting, dietitian, eating, energy, exercise, fat, fitness, food, fruit, health, healthy, isolated, life, lifestyle, lose, losing, loss, low, measure, nutrition, physician, red, slimming, tape, vitamin, weight, weightloss, white
