08. Enhancing eyes - part 1
The eyes are the soul of a portrait (waauww, I'm getting lyric :) ). Improving the contrast of the eyes can have a great impact on an image. But do not overdo it !! Don't make your model look like an alien.
The first step is to improve the contrast in and around the eyes.
1. Duplicate the background layer
2. select the dodge tool
3. Make sure it's set to highlights
4. Paint, with a low exposure, a few times over the eye but not the skin around !
5. Select the burn tool
6. Make sure it's set to shadows
7. Paint, with a low exposure, over the iris and maybe also the skin around the eye.
8. If you've overdone it, use the opacity slider.
Although the result can be very subtile, it makes a great difference. Just move your mouse over the image to see the result.
