14. Enhancing hair
For improving the hair, we use again the same as explained on page 8.
1. Duplicate the layer
2. Use the dodge tool
3. Set to highlights
4. Paint with a low exposure a few times over the highlights of the hair
5. Use the burn tool
6. Set to shadows
7. Also paint with a low exposure over the shadows of the hair
8. So far no problems.
One disadvantage of using the burn tool is that it not only changes brightness, but it increases saturation too. Therefor you could end up with hair that is too much saturated. To control this unwanted saturation you could do the following.
- Duplicate the layer with modified hair.
- Change the opacity of the top layer to 0%
- Change the blending mode of the bottom layer to luminosity. This will preserve the contrast changes, but will probably loose too much of the saturation effect.
9. Now increase the opacity of the top layer until the image looks good.
